WebFeb 13, 2011 · Weld the first one on then bolt (if you want) the second one on. You have to have some "meat" to bolt the cutting edge to. Other wise the bucket don't have much to support the edge, since most skid steered buckets are only 3/16Th" thick bottoms. I have seen them get jammed full of asphalt, dirt concrete, etc. and it puckers up the bucket.

I always preheat them to about 200-300 and weld with 7018. Usually put a root in with wire. Never found a good wire for doing the lip and adaptors..but I'm sure there are some.

Then burn in the first weld at 200A using 6011, then top with a more normal 125A or so using 7018. I heard a similar suggestion from another welder for technique, but the rod type was reversed - so one of them was confused.

I wish I had teeth that pinned on from the side, It would make it easier to knock the keeper pins in and out, to replace the crumbing blade with teeth. I just leave it on most of the time. You will wreck a lot less tile with a smooth edge on the bucket vs long teeth. But it still happens now and then.
